Rainclouds forecast to break the heat this week: Murcia weather July 7-10
The prospect of some gentle rain this week brings some brief respite to what looks like it will be a summer that is longer and hotter than usual

After so many days and weeks of very high temperatures in Spain and the Region of Murcia, you will be glad to know that rain is forecast for the beginning of this week, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The plus-30ºC heat came earlier than usual this year and looks like it will continue for longer as well. Highs of over 40ºC have been recorded on several days already. This summer’s temperatures are well above normal for the first weeks of this season, according to the records kept by Aemet.
In fact, the data don’t lie: the month of June smashed all heat records in the Region of Murcia, and this goes hand in hand with a record temperature in the water of the Mediterranean Sea, which is at unprecedented levels approaching 28ºC.
That’s why it’s such a relief to hear that rain is forecast to be on the way. It will still be very hot this week, though the heat will loosen its grip slightly for a few days, at least.
Before then, this Monday July 7 will continue to be unceasingly sunny, with nary a cloud in the sky, save perhaps in Yecla where there could be some showers in the afternoon. Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 35-37ºC in inland areas, and 31-34ºC along the coast.

Murcia weather forecast, Monday July 7
It is on the morning of Tuesday July 8 that Aemet forecasts the probability of showers to be around 50% in Murcia city, Alcantarilla, Molina de Segura and municipalities of the Ricote Valley. In Campos del Río and Mula it is even above 60%. These will not be heavy thunderstorms, however, but rather a gentle sprinkling of cooling rain.

In the afternoon, the rain is forecast to shift down to Cartagena, Fuente Álamo and points of the Mar Menor, although the probability is somewhat lower, close to 50%.

On Wednesday 9, too, there is some rain forecast in spots like Totana and Yecla in the morning.

But almost more interesting than the rain, in terms of temperatures, are the clouds, which will help to bring the heat down by a couple of degrees, if only for a few days.
No heat warnings are issued for this week, for example, and by Wednesday maximum temperatures will be 33-35ºC in inland areas – a cooling off of a couple of degrees.
In addition, night-time temperatures will go down slightly, down to 18-21ºC inland and 22-25ºC along the coast by Thursday July 10, when no more rain is currently forecast to fall.
Looking ahead to the weekend, while there may be a return of some showers on Saturday, the temperatures are also forecast to climb back up again. All the more reason to enjoy the brief respite at the beginning of this week!
