Record numbers of tourists visited Lorca this Easter

This Holy Week saw Lorca achieve its best tourist and hospitality figures since records began
Hotels posted their ‘No vacancies’ sign and bars and restaurants increased their turnover by 30% compared to last Easter. It was a bumper holiday season for Lorca, whose
novel, horse-based Easter processions proved a draw for record numbers of tourists this year.
The number of visitors served at the city’s Tourist Information Points was up by 13% on last Easter, and more than 500,000 people came to visit the city to “enjoy the packed schedule of Easter celebration events.
More than 500 workers have been part of the special operations carried out by the City Council, including security and emergencies, tourist informants and cleaning workers. Cleaning services have removed just over 600,000 kilos of waste from the streets, 5% more than the previous year, and it was a safer Easter than ever, with the total number of emergencies handled by professionals going down by 62% compared to 2023, with only 18 interventions, none of them serious.
The mayor of the city, Fulgencio Gil, said, “This year’s Holy Week has been an unprecedented success thanks to everyone’s efforts. The work to achieve excellence… has allowed us to achieve historic figures for the best Holy Week in the world. I want to congratulate all the people who have made this possible with their contribution, and particularly the presidents of all the Brotherhoods for their collaboration with our City Council for the benefit of Lorca.”
Interestingly, the number of Norwegian tourists visiting Lorca for Semana Santa grew to reach 5% of the total. Other groups of foreigners who also registered high visitor numbers were the British (24%), French (20%), Germans (12%) and Belgians (6%).
