Renovation of Plaza Bohemia in La Manga enters the final stretch
The La Manga boulevard will soon be one of the most impressive leisure areas in the Region
The emblematic Plaza Bohemia in La Manga is set to become one of the largest outdoor shopping and leisure plazas in Murcia as the extensive project enters its final leg. With a total investment of 437,052 euros, the project is 80% funded by European Development Funds, with the remaining 20% coming from the municipal budget under ‘La Manga 365', a campaign aimed at turning the popular coastal resort into a year-round tourist destination. The European Strategy for Sustainable Urban Development (EDUSI) has earmarked around 16 million euros for the development of La Manga, according to the Minister of Public Works José Ramón Díez de Revenga, who explained that in the next few days the lighting installation works will begin, as will the laying of the car park.Around 50% of the entire project has already been completed: a drainage system has been installed, the dividing walls between the square and the parking lot have been erected, the paving and footpaths are finished and the entire pedestrianised area of the centre is complete.Even at this stage of the works, some street furniture like benches, stands and bike parking have already been put in place.
For De Revenga, the new Plaza Bohemia will represent the social, cultural and economic heart of La Manga. Spanning a huge urban area of 1,200 square metres, the square’s focal point will be a large open-air boulevard where all kinds of events can held throughout the year and where markets, craft stalls and street food outlets should flourish. The square will be centred around pedestrians, with ample shady areas and green spaces. In addition, car parking spaces will be increased by 30, three of which will be accessible and also serve as charging points for electric vehicles.Images: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
