Richard Gere trades in the States for Spanish dream home
The Pretty Woman actor has purchased a 3.5 million euro home near Madrid
Hollywood heartthrob Richard Gere has made it official: he's leaving the United States behind and embracing the Spanish lifestyle. The 75-year-old actor has just sold his stunning Connecticut mansion for a whopping $10.75 million, and it's not hard to see why he's making the move.
Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, have already settled into their new life in Spain, having purchased a breathtaking 800 square metre mansion in La Moraleja for 3.5 million euros. The sprawling estate boasts a 3,000 square metre garden, perfect for the couple and their kids to enjoy the Spanish sunshine.
The ‘Pretty Woman’ actor’s Connecticut home, which he purchased from singer-songwriters Paul Simon and Edie Brickell in 2022, has been sold at a significant loss. The couple had paid $16.5 million for the property 17 years earlier, making Gere's sale price of $10.75 million a considerable drop in value. However, Gere himself only lost a relatively modest $50,000 on the sale.
Gere and Silva have been living in the United States since their marriage in 2018, but the actor has expressed his desire to spend more time in Spain. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Gere stated that it was only fair to allow his wife, who is 41, to be closer to her family.
“For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture. She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers.”
He also said that Madrid will be a “great adventure” for him, Silva and their two children, Alexandra and James who are 5 and 4 years old, respectively.
Gere said, “I love Spain and the ability of the Spanish people to live transmitting joy and happiness.”
La Moraleja is a neighbourhood located in the municipality of Alcobendas, in the Community of Madrid, a residential area known for its luxury homes, gardens and high standard of living.
La Moraleja is situated about 13 kilometres north of Madrid's city centre and is considered one of the most affluent and exclusive areas in the Madrid metropolitan area.
