ARCHIVED - Rising temperatures followed by spring showers: Spain weather forecast April 25-28
The beginning of the week will be bright and sunny in Spain, giving way to rain on Wednesday
The past few days in Spain have epitomised spring, bringing every kind of weather imaginable: Easter weekend saw summer-like temperatures in much of the country when just a couple of days later, several communities were on alert for wet and stormy weather, while parts of Spain experienced the heaviest snowfall in two decades.
As we move into the last week of April, sadly it’s not time to pack away the umbrellas and winter clothes just yet. Although the week will begin dry and sunny on the whole, an Atlantic storm situated to the west of the peninsula will send several weather fronts throughout the week, and from Wednesday the rain is set to return.
Monday April 25
This is the perfect day to catch up on the laundry, as Monday will dawn bright and breezy, with the exception of the Canary Islands, where the downpours are likely to continue, and only a few weak showers are forecast in the northern part of the country.
Tuesday April 26
The weather will remain generally stable on Tuesday, although showers are expected in the northwest and east coasts, with the heaviest in the south forecast on the Andalucían Mediterranean coast.
Wednesday April 27
Everything will change from Wednesday, however, when a pocket of cold air will arrive from the north, creating storms and heavy showers as it moves through the country. The most intense rainfall will occur in the north and northeast of Spain, while Extremadura, western Castilla-La Mancha and Andalucía, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands will remain dry.
Thursday April 28
The instability will continue through Thursday, and the showers will extend to the rest of the country and the Balearic Islands by the end of the day.
Temperatures
The thermometers shot up on Sunday April 24, rising as high as 24ºC in Valencia and Murcia. On Monday and Tuesday, day-time temperatures will continue to rise, peaking at between 18 and 20ºC and reaching up to 25ºC in mountainous areas.
On Wednesday and Thursday, with the change in weather and the arrival of new rainfall, temperatures will drop, but it will be Thursday when the decrease will be most noticeable, especially in areas of the eastern peninsula.
