ARCHIVED - Russia includes Spain on hostile countries list
This is one of the first retaliations made by Putin against the imposed sanctions
On Monday March 7, Vladimir Putin drew up a list of almost 50 countries which he considers “hostile” for leading actions against the interests of “the Russian Federation, companies and Russian citizens.”
According to the Interfax news agency in Russia, Putin’s decree states that the nation itself, Russian citizens and companies who have financial obligations in any of the countries on its hostile list can pay in roubles if the amount exceeds ten million roubles per month (around 66,000 euros).
The list includes the 27 member states of the European Union (EU), including Spain of course, as well as the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Switzerland and South Korea.

Putin signed a decree on Saturday by which he ordered the Council of Ministers to draw up this list of countries in question, which also includes Australia, Albania, Andorra, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Canada, Liechtenstein, Federated States of Micronesia, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, North Macedonia, Singapore, Taiwan, Ukraine, Montenegro and Switzerland.
All of the countries and territories on the list have enacted or have joined the sanctions imposed against Russia after the start of the Ukrainian invasion. This is one of the first Russian responses to the sanctions, which caused the historic depreciation of the rouble; Russia’s currency has already lost 45% of its value since January 1.
