Ryanair passenger dies on flight from Malaga to the UK
The man fell ill shortly after the plane departed from the Costa del Sol airport
A passenger aboard a Ryanair flight from Malaga to Manchester died after falling ill shortly after take-off on Sunday January 7. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in Bordeaux, France but there was nothing cabin crew could do to save the man’s life.
“Cabin crew called ahead for medical assistance and the aircraft was met by paramedics upon arrival,” a Ryanair spokesman explained.
“We had to do an emergency landing in Bordeaux and a passenger next to us performed CPR the whole time that we were landing, but he unfortunately didn’t make it,” a fellow passenger said, adding that the pilot asked over the intercom if there was a doctor on board.
Due to the commotion, many travellers became stressed and anxious, he said, a distressing situation which was made worse by the fact that there wasn’t enough water on the plane for everyone.
“A woman then fainted due to the stress of the situation.
“There were also many distressed children on board who were very confused and upset. The pilot then announced we will not be continuing the flight and will have to stay overnight in Bordeaux.”
A Ryanair spokesperson confirmed: “Passengers were provided with overnight accommodation, and despite Ryanair’s efforts to arrange transport to the hotel, availability of transport was limited, and passengers were advised that they could also arrange individual transport to the hotel and that they could claim back expenses on Ryanair.com.”
The flight left France for the UK shortly after 10am the following morning.
