Ryanair passengers face €100 fines for common check-in mistake
The Irish airline is now fining passengers who don’t arrive at the airport early enough

It sometimes feels like the budget airlines make it their full-time job to think of new ways to charge passengers, a tactic that has landed several of the low-cost carriers in hot water in recent months. But, undeterred, Ryanair has just issued a warning to its passengers about a new fine they could face if they don’t arrive at the airport in plenty of time.
While most of us err on the side of caution and get to the airport the recommended two hours ahead, others tend to cut it a little too fine. But from now on, travellers who fail to present themselves at the check-in desk more than 40 minutes ahead of their scheduled flight time will be slapped with a €100 penalty. And that’s per person, so tardy families of groups will face even harsher fines.
As the summer holiday season approaches this new Ryanair policy could really put a damper on upcoming trips so the airline advises all customers to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to check in luggage and go through security. This is especially important during peak travel seasons when queues can be longer.
On this point, Ryanair is very clear: If you arrive at the airport with less than 40 minutes to go before your flight, you'll face a fine. This is because the check-in desk will be closed and boarding will already be underway, causing disruptions to other passengers.
And if you miss your first flight and try to book onto the next one, you'll still be charged the €100 fee.
This new policy is a reminder to plan ahead and arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. It's not worth the risk of facing a fine and potentially ruining your holiday. And don't forget, Ryanair also charges a €55 per person fee for airport check-in if it's not done online through their app or website.
Ryanair’s policy states: "If you do not check in online up to two hours before your scheduled departure time, you may check in at the airport up to 40 minutes before departure, but you will be charged an airport check-in fee."
