Ryanair adds 8 new routes from Spain to UK and other destinations
One of the new flights will operate between Tenerife and the UK base of Cardiff
Ryanair has announced the launch of eight new routes from Tenerife airport for the summer season, connecting the island to various destinations in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Hungary.
The airline will operate two new aircraft from its Tenerife South base, representing an investment of 400 million euros and generating 60 direct jobs and 4,000 indirect jobs.
Ryanair's country manager for Spain, Elena Cabrera, expressed optimism about the new routes, stating that bookings for the summer are going well, with a 10% increase compared to the company's average. To celebrate the launch, Ryanair is offering an introductory price of 29.99 euros for tickets on the new routes.
Tenerife's Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso, welcomed Ryanair's expanded commitment to the island, highlighting the importance of connectivity for a tourist destination. He emphasised that the new routes will enable Tenerife to tap into emerging markets in eastern Europe and promote sustainable tourism practices.
Dimple Melwani, CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, echoed Afonso's sentiment, describing Ryanair's commitment as "good news" for the island. She noted that Tenerife is already the best-connected island in the Canaries, with 151 airports and 29 markets, and is committed to sustainable growth with quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft.
Overall, the new routes are expected to contribute to a successful summer season for Tenerife, building on the momentum of last year's record-breaking tourist numbers. Ryanair's expanded presence in the region reflects the growing demand for affordable air travel and the importance of sustainability in the tourism industry.
Specifically, Tenerife will be connected to the cities of Marrakech (Morocco), Budapest (Hungary), Toulouse (France), Pisa (Italy), Memmingen and Dusseldorf (Germany), Knock (Ireland) and Cardiff (Wales).
