ARCHIVED - San Pedro Visitor Centre to reopen at the end of the year
The remodelled ‘Las Salinas’ centre in Murcia welcomes more than 16,000 visitors each year
After an extensive remodel, the ‘Las Salinas’ Visitor Centre in San Pedro del Pinatar is set to reopen its doors at the end of the year. The ambitious project is focused on improving accessibility, energy sustainability and the services provided to the 16,000 or so visitors who use this popular facility each year.
In total, the works have a budget of more than 776,000 euros and are co-financed (80%) by the European Regional Development Fund.
Located next to the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park and beside the Mar Menor Protected Area, the Visitor Centre offers guests a unique view of the natural, cultural and social values of the area.
When it reopens, the facility will have a new, larger car park complete with meeting point for school trips and better access for people with reduced mobility.
Among the interior improvements, the project includes the construction of a regional park interpretation room, with audiovisual media, interactive panels and models, as well as the construction of the Mar Menor interpretation room and full access to the lighthouse, which is a stunning viewpoint of the salt flats and sandbanks.
In addition, the annex building, which is also being remodelled, will house the facilities for environmental agents in the Mar Menor area and will incorporate new energy efficiency measures.
