The savage recording was released by the Colombian pop star as she awaits trial for tax fraud in Spain
It’s common these days to hear of videos and blog posts that are so popular they ‘break the internet’ and Shakira’s new scathing musical attack on former partner Gerard Piqué has done just that.
The pop sensation has released a much-anticipated song as Argentinian producer Bizarrap’s guest artist in his BZRP Music Sessions #53, and the video has garnered more than 63 million views on YouTube in just 24 hours, making it the most watched new Latin song in the platform’s history.
Shakira and Piqué, who played football for Barcelona, Manchester United and the Spain, split in June 2022 after 12 years, right around the time it became known that the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer was facing serious jail time for defrauding the Spanish Treasury.
The football veteran, 35, began dating 23-year Clara Chía not long after and Shakira remained tight-lipped at the time, but it appears she is only too aware that revenge is a dish best served cold.
The deliberate digs at the former centre-back are undeniable: “a she-wolf like me isn’t for rookies” … “I was out of your league, which is why you’re with someone just like you.”
And when she comes to the word ‘salpique’, Shakira takes a very pregnant pause, heavily emphasising the syllable ‘pique’.
She doesn’t hesitate to take a pop at Piqué’s new, much younger girlfriend either, singing: “I’m worth two 22-year-olds,” and adding: “You swapped a Ferrari for a Twingo/You swapped a Rolex for a Casio.”
The 45-year-old beauty also alludes to being hounded by the media and tax man, referring to her ongoing legal battle in Spain. The pop star could be looking at 8 years in prison for failing to pay taxes on a 14.5 million euro fortune while residing in Spain between 2012 and 2014.
