School stabbing shocks Spain
Three teachers and two students have been attacked by a high school student in Cadiz
A 14-year-old child has been arrested on Thursday September 28 after stabbing three teachers and two other students at his high school in the Andalucia province of Cádiz. The horror attack has rocked the quiet San José Obrero neighbourhood in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, where the incident took place.
According to early reports, the boy is in class C in the third year of ESO at the Elena García Armada Institute. Shortly after 8am, his schoolmates say he stormed to the back of the classroom “all angry” and grabbed two knives from his backpack.
“The he began to attack everyone, even his class teacher, who he hit in the eye,” one student explained.
“He almost caught my friend and hit another in the forearm. My Physics and Chemistry teacher was hit the head,” the young witness added.
Others present claim the boy appeared absolutely fine before he launched his attack “with great brutality” and “even chatted with some classmates” before lessons were due to start. For now, the reason behind his outburst is unknown and he has been transferred to the Jerez National Police Station for questioning.
However, several other third year ESO students pointed out that the suspect is on the Autism spectrum and has been involved in fights in the past.
In addition to the teacher who was stabbed in the eye, two other educators were injured, one of them very seriously. Two students also received injuries of various degrees. All of the victims have been transferred to hospital for treatment.
The Police have cordoned off the area and the other students have been asked to remain inside the high school, as in protocol in cases like this, while their parents wait anxiously outside the gates.
The mayor of Jerez, María José García Pelayo, has made his way to the scene and is currently inside the building with the teachers and children.
