The quake was one of few that are stronger than magnitude 2 in Murcia

A quake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale occurred this morning in the Mediterranean Sea, in the waters off Cabo de Palos and Cartagena, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), which measure seismic activity in Spain.
It took place at 11.40am and its epicentre was located at a depth of 19 kilometres.
In the Region of Murcia, such small tremors are common and sometimes there are several per week, but they rarely exceed magnitude 2 like this one.
