Self-employed in Murcia could claim up to €10,000 for hiring staff
The Region of Murcia has launched a new grant scheme to help autónomos take on permanent staff
Starting a business is never easy, especially if you're beginning from scratch, don't have much experience, or are only growing gradually. One of the trickiest steps for a small company or self-employed worker is often taking on a new employee, since it brings a fresh set of costs and means being confident the business can actually support the extra outlay.
That's why the regional government in Murcia offers a range of support schemes aimed at making it easier for both businesses and the self-employed to hire new staff.
One of the latest is a grant scheme called Subsidies to Promote Permanent Employment in the Region of Murcia, designed to encourage more stable, long-term employment across the Region. It's open to companies and self-employed workers (autónomos) based in the Region of Murcia, as well as groups of legal entities, individuals, or joint ownership arrangements.
The grant is available simply for taking someone on with a permanent contract, with the amount depending on the hours worked and the profile of the person being hired.
Taking on a long-term unemployed person full-time, for example, brings a grant of €6,000, rising to €8,000 if that person is over 52. If the new hire is a woman who has experienced gender-based violence, the grant increases to €9,350.
Other groups covered include people converting from apprenticeship contracts, those under 30, people at risk of social exclusion or receiving the Minimum Living Income (IMV), and hires made in municipalities with fewer than 10,000 residents. In most cases, hiring a woman adds a further 10% to the grant.
There's an extra incentive too. If the person being hired is the very first employee for a self-employed worker or company, or the first hire after going a full year without staff, the grant increases by up to a further €2,000.
Applications need to be submitted within a month of the employee being registered with Social Security, or from the date their contract becomes permanent. This has to be done electronically through the Region of Murcia's official portal, sede.carm.es, using an electronic signature.
Grants are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis until the allocated budget runs out, with no ranking or comparison made between applications.
