September 2023 Medieval Sephardic Jewish menus at the Las Caballerizas del Castillo restaurant in Lorca castle

ARCHIVED ARTICLE -

A delicious trip back to Lorca in the 13th and 14th centuries!

September 2023 Medieval Sephardic Jewish menus at the Las Caballerizas del Castillo restaurant in Lorca castleVarious guided visits and tours are being held during September 2023 in Lorca to coincide with the annual celebration of Jewish cultural heritage throughout Europe, a tradition which the “City of the Sun” has been keen to embrace as it celebrates the importance of the Sephardic Jews in its medieval history.

Alongside these visits is a special gastronomic homage to the cuisine of Jews in Spain during the Middle Ages at the Las Caballerizas del Castillo restaurant in Lorca castle, featuring dishes which are based on the culinary heritage passed down since the 13th and 14th centuries. As a result this is a rather different menu – don’t expect chicken nuggets and chips!

The Sephardic menu is available on the patio dining area of the restaurant on September 2, 3, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 14.00, and is priced at 26 euros per person. Prior booking is essential online here or via 968 479003, although no up-front payment is required: the booking gives you priority until 15 minutes before the meal begins, so arrive well on time!

Menu:

Starters (centre of table)

Tomato salad with feta cheese and black olives

Rice with aubergines, soy beans and honey

Chicken curry samosas

Main courses (one only)

Roast lamb with cinnamon

Salmon in hraime sauce

(Vegetarian options can also be prepared)

Dessert (one only)

Rice pudding with vanilla

Fruits of the season

One drink is included.
