Settled weather expected throughout most of Spain in the coming days
Meteorologists predict that anticyclonic stability could last for ‘weeks or months’ in Spain

While meteorological experts have ruled out a violent storm the magnitude of Filomena which hit Spain this time last year, an anticyclone is set to sweep the country in the coming days which will see temperatures plummet but prevent the usual rain and snow storms that predominate in January.
Samuel Biener from Meteored has predicted that this anticyclonic block of weather could last “for weeks or months” which would be devastating news for Spain’s farmers, “since the drought is worrying in some regions,” particularly in the central and western part of the country.
The temperatures are set to drop drastically once more to between -4 and -8ºC in nine autonomous communities, while Andalucía and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla are under an orange warning early in the week for strong winds and waves reaching a height of four metres.
Looking ahead, intense frosts will cover much of the northern half of the peninsula on Wednesday January 26, with windy weather expected in southern coastal areas.
On Thursday, the Valencian Community will join Andalucía on a yellow alert for cold temperatures as the anticyclonic stability continues in most of the country. However, cloudy skies with showers are expected in the Canary Islands, more intense in the western islands and Gran Canaria, and there is a chance of an occasional storm accompanied by hail. Cloudy skies will dominate in the southeast and the Balearic Islands, and scattered rainfall is likely in Malaga, Almería and Murcia.
Andalucía will be under another yellow weather alert for coastal hazards on Friday January 28, while freezing temperatures are expected in Catalonia, Castilla y León, Aragón and the Balearic Islands.
