ARCHIVED - Spain finally scraps Covid entry requirements for non-EU citizens
Travellers from the UK will no longer have to present a Covid cert to enter Spain
It’s been a long time coming but from Friday October 21, visitors travelling from the United Kingdom, the United States or any other third country will no longer have to provide Covid documentation when arriving at Spain’s airports or sea ports. This means that holidaymakers don’t have to provide proof of vaccination, recovery from coronavirus or a negative test, the same rules which already apply to EU citizens.
The welcome news was published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on Thursday October 20 and attributes the removal of all travel restrictions to “Spain’s and the world’s epidemiological situation.” The aim of scrapping the entry requirements, the government said, is to promote “the normalisation of international mobility.”
Throughout the pandemic Spain was known around the globe for its no-nonsense approach to public safety and after Luxembourg lifted its travel restrictions in September, Spain became the last country in the EU to impose entry requirements on non-EU visitors.
On its official Twitter page, the Ministry of the Interior wrote: “As of October 21, the health control measures for passengers from non-EU or Schengen associated countries are without effect”.
Last month, the Spanish government announced that it was ditching the laborious SpTH health control form so now, the only travel restriction that remains in place is the requirement to wear a mask on public transport.
