Spain heatwave moves on but hot weather persists: weekend forecast August 10-13
Northern Spain will be lucky enough to get some rain this weekend, but it will remain hot everywhere else
While the west of Spain suffered the worst of this third heatwave of the year on Wednesday, the southeast will be feeling the heat this Thursday August 10, with Castilla-La Mancha, the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community on red alert for high temperatures that could occasionally reach as high as 45ºC, according to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
On Wednesday, Sevilla and Granada were the hottest places in Spain, registering sweltering highs in excess of 44ºC. This Thursday, Aemet has activated orange warnings for maximums of more than 40-43ºC in these areas, as well as in Aragón, Catalonia, the Community of Madrid and the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, the warning level for high temperatures drops to yellow in the Balearic Islands, Castilla y León and Extremadura.

The heatwave will begin to abate as of this Friday August 11, although the weekend will continue to be very hot. Temperatures should begin to drop in the Mediterranean area, but they will remain unchanged or even rise in the rest of mainland Spain, including Madrid, and nights will continue to be torrid.
In the north of Galicia and Asturias, there could even be some light rainfall and temperatures during the day will be around 25-30ºC, a much more manageable sort of summer heat.
Nonetheless, Aemet has warned that the extreme risk of wildfires will continue in most of the country.
The rest of the weekend will still be hot by anyone’s standards, but officially the heatwave will have ended by Saturday August 12. By Sunday 13, the threshold of 40ºC will be reached “in very few areas,” according to Aemet, although it will continue to reach up to 35ºC in large areas of the centre, south and east of mainland Spain.

The rains will be scarce and weak and will be limited to the Cantabrian Sea in the north of Spain. The Canary Islands, on the other hand, will continue to see a progressive rise in temperatures, which may reach up to 34-36ºC in large areas of the islands and even 38-40ºC in the midlands of Gran Canaria. In the southern midlands of Gran Canaria, night-time temperatures will not drop below a suffocating 30ºC all night.
