ARCHIVED - Spain plans to collect 1bn euros in traffic fines next year
The Government in Spain expects to make 4.4% more through traffic violations than the previous year
With general costs for consumers on the rise in Spain and the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) implementing a host of new traffic regulations, there is yet more bad news for motorists as the project of General State Budgets for 2022, which was announced last week, plans to collect almost 1 billion euros in traffic charges and fines, which represents a 4.4% increase compared to 2021.
Conversely, the money the Government expects to rake in from fines next year far exceeds the 839 million euros allocated to road safety initiatives, which will focus on reducing the accident rate, guaranteeing mobility through adequate traffic management and managing all procedures electronically.
