ARCHIVED - Spain welcomes autumn with unseasonably high temperatures: weather outlook August 29-September 1
Meteorologists predict that this September in Spain could be 1.5ºC hotter than usual
The climatological autumn officially begins in Spain on Thursday September 1 and will last until the end of November, and meteorologists are already predicting that the coming season will be a great deal hotter than normal.
“September will be a warmer month than normal in almost the entire country, following the trend of a record summer due to high temperatures,” Meteored’s Damuel Biener has forecast, suggesting that the thermometers will be between 1 and 1.5ºC above the average, perhaps even more in the extreme south of the country.
For Monday August 29, the unstable situation that marked the weekend will continue, promising an overcast day in central Spain, the north and northwest along with showers and storms.
Day-time temperatures are on the rise on the Mediterranean coast and the Canary Islands but will drop elsewhere, once again exceeding 35ºC in the Guadalquivir, eastern Andalucia and Murcia.
Twelve communities are on alert for heavy rain, including Madrid and Valencia.
Moving on to Tuesday August 30 and little change is expected, with most of the country under a blanket of high cloud. The maximum temperatures will inch up by a couple of degrees, hitting a sweltering 39ºC in parts of of Murcia. Slightly breezy in most of the country.
Andalucia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands and the Region of Murcia are all on yellow level alert for high temperatures.
More cloudy skies and rain are forecast for Wednesday August 31, although the precipitation in the south is likely to be weak and scattered. A loose westerly wind is expected and temperatures should drop on the whole, especially in inland areas.
Looking ahead to Thursday September 1 and no weather warnings are in place but Aemet has forecast that the rain beginning in Galicia will spread from west to east as the day moves on, carrying early morning showers and even possible storms to the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands, tending to subside in intensity in the afternoon.
Temperatures will drop in almost the entire country, except for the interior southeast, where, without significant changes, the thermometers could exceed 35ºC. It could be quite a blustery day, with winds from the west and south expected along the Atlantic and southern Mediterranean coasts.
