Spanish airline ranked among the safest carriers in the world
The Spanish carrier has also just been voted the second most punctual in Europe
Airplanes are still the safest means of transport there is. In fact, a recent study has revealed that between 2018 and 2022, the risk of death was approximately one in 13.7 million, compared to deaths from traffic accidents, which were 1.19 in 2023, as estimated by the World Health Organisation.
It stands to reason then that when it comes to travel, safety is a top priority for passengers and Airline Ratings has just released its annual ranking of the safest airlines in the world.
This year, a Spanish airline has earned a spot in the top 20, making it one of the most secure carriers globally. The ranking takes into account key factors such as the number of incidents, safety standards, pilot training and the age and size of the fleet.
The Spanish airline which has made the prestigious list is none other than Iberia, recently voted second most punctual carrier in Europe, with 81.58% of its flights arriving on time. Spain’s flagship airline was just behind its sister company Iberia Express, with 84.69% of its flights also sticking to schedule.

Airlines to avoid at all costs
Now that you know the safest carriers to fly with, it’s just as important to know which international airlines the EU recommends to avoid at all costs.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has blacklisted 129 airlines, barring them from operating in EU airspace due to safety concerns. In addition, around 100 certified airlines from 15 different countries have been flagged for having inadequate safety procedures, while 29 carriers have been banned outright for more serious issues. Of these, 22 are registered in Russia.
The latest addition to this high-risk list is Air Tanzania, joining a group of airlines deemed extremely unsafe to fly. Alongside the Russian carriers, six others have been flagged as particularly dangerous: Air Zimbabwe, Venezuela’s Avior, Suriname’s Blue Wing, Iran Aseman from Iran and two Iraqi airlines - Fly Baghdad and Iraqi Airways.
