Spanish bar manager held over rape of British tourist in Mallorca
The young woman was accosted outside a pub in the town of Sant Llorenç
The Spanish manager of a bar in the Mallorca town of S'Illot (Sant Llorenç) was arrested by the Guardia Civil on Friday May 17 for the alleged rape of a 19-year-old British tourist.
The young holidaymaker told officers after the attack that she had accepted several free drinks from the suspect and subsequently became very drunk. After complaining of feeling unwell, the manager and two other men took her to a storeroom, where they asked her to have sex with them.
She refused and fled from the bar, but her attackers pursued and dragged her to a secluded area, where she was raped by the first man.
Meanwhile, the two other unidentified men stood idly by without interfering.
After the horrifying incident, the woman returned to her hotel and reported the sexual assault to the receptionist at around 4am. The Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police immediately took charge of the case and arrested the suspect, who has categorically denied raping the tourist.
Investigators are still trying to track down the other two men who witnessed the attack.
