ARCHIVED - Spanish cuisine voted third best in the world
Spain was pipped to the post in the Taste Atlas survey by Italy and Greece
Spain has a number recent accolades under its belt, including having three of its beers voted among the best in the world, and now the nation’s gastronomic achievements have come under the spotlight.
Taste Atlas, a travel guide that compiles reviews from real-life diners to determine the best cuisines from around the globe, has released the results of its latest poll and Spain has been placed third in the ranking with a very impressive 4.59 stars out or 5.
The ‘World’s Best Cuisine’ list highlighted Spain for such delicious delicacies as paella, croquettes and churros and restaurants in Barcelona, Sanlucar de Barrameda and Santiago de Compostela also got the nod as top places to sample authentic Spanish cuisine.
In a parallel ranking, diners voted for the best individual dishes in the world and for Spain, garlic prawns came out on top and landed at number 13 overall. The country’s favourite culinary products included Iberian ham, Manchego cheese and fuet, a dry-cured sausage from Catalonia.
A few tipples also made the list: the ever-popular sangria along with the wines of La Rioja and Castilla y León and the Catalan Cava were fan favourites, while the cortado coffee and Spanish hot chocolate both received good scores.
Coming in at number 1 on the ‘World’s Best Cuisine’ list is Italy, chosen for its pizzas, risottos and pasta, of course. The silver medal was awarded to Greece thanks to gyros and moussaka.
