ARCHIVED - Spanish sausages recalled for containing listeriosis
Three meat products sold widely throughout Spain are believed to have been contaminated
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued an alert for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in several types of sausages from the Salgot brand widely sold in shops and supermarkets throughout Spain. The health notice initially came from the Catalan health authorities but it is understood that the sausages were distributed in Catalonia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Madrid and the Valencian Community.
The affected products have been withdrawn from sale and anyone who has purchased them has been asked to return the products to the store.
According to the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI), the bacterium has been detected in the following Salgot sausages:
- Botifarra negra; expiration date 07.08.2021; batch number 211804 and 212019
- Botifarra negra traditional; expiration date 24.08.2021; batch number 211804
- Bull de IIengua; expiration date 16.08.2021; batch number 212017
So far there have been no reports of anyone in Spain being adversely affected by consuming the products, but people suffering from vomiting diarrhoea or fever are advised to contact their health centre.
