ARCHIVED - Special church services to be held in Mazarron following the death of Elizabeth II
The Royal British Legion in Mazarrón is abiding by requests to hold back memorial events until after the State Funeral
Juan José Noguera, the parish priest of the church of San José in Puerto de Mazarrón and president of the local branch of the charity organization Cáritas, has issued the following statement regarding the passing of Elizabeth II last week:
“Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II I wish to express my most sincere sympathy to the Nation but especially to the British residents in the municipality of Mazarrón. Several Church Services will take place in the next few days in her honour. She was greatly admired for her service to the Nation and the love that she showed to her people. She promised to serve the British people throughout her life and that's what she did. She was an icon of the XX century and an example for the XXI century.”
His sentiments are echoed by the PSOE party in Mazarrón, who have stated “From the PSOE Mazarrón we send our condolences to the Royal Family, the Government, the British citizens of the United Kingdom and who reside in our municipality for the death of Queen Elizabeth II.”
As for when a memorial service may be held, the President of the Royal British Legion in Mazarrón explains that no specific arrangements are yet in place: “We are abiding by current requests from our monarchy that no events or memorials are to take place prior to Her Majesty's funeral.”
