ARCHIVED - Stolen Cartagena locator board traced to Madrid after council creates waves on social media
Cartagena City Council shared a TikTok video of the La Manga Km 1 marker theft to find whoever was reponsible
A locator surfboard stolen from Km1 in La Manga last week has been traced to Madrid after Cartagena City Council shared a TikTok video which appears to show a young man stealing the board and placing it in a car to try to find the person responsible.
Publicly condemning the theft, the council also confirmed that the police had been notified and were looking into the matter.
However, within 48 hours, the father of the man captured on video contacted Cartagena Police reporting that his son had taken the board and that he intended to return it.
Desde el Ayuntamiento de Cartagena hemos interpuesto una denuncia por la sustracción.

Apparently, the man recognised his son in the clip which racked up plenty of mixed comments on social media. Whilst some people were outraged, others worryingly said they want to "copy the idea this summer" when they visit La Manga.
The iconic surfboards are used to inform locals and tourists exactly where they are in La Manga.
