Storm Bernard follows close behind Aline in Spain: Weather forecast October 23-27
Much of the country will be drenched by rain all week long
Spain weather forecast, Thursday October 26
Spain has hardly had time to stop reeling from the destructive effects of Storm Aline before being assault by a fresh barrage of wind and rain this week thanks to Storm Bernard.
The winds have already caused massive damage in Huelva and Cádiz in the south of Spain, which have reportedly registered isolated gusts of up to 147kmh.
This Monday October 23, 2023 will bring rain and heavy clouds as Bernard sweeps in from across the Atlantic. Early morning rainfall is expected in the area around the Strait of Gibraltar and in the northern half of the country, with heavy and persistent rainfall likely in the Pyrenees. The Balearic Islands will also be extremely cloudy, and some showers with thunderstorms have not been ruled out while Alicante and Valencia may even experience a calima dust episode.
In the Canary Islands, stuck out in the Atlantic Ocean, there may be cloudy skies and scattered rainfall, more likely in the north of the islands and in high altitude inland areas in the afternoon.
Spain weather forecast, Monday October 23
On Tuesday 24, the rain and very strong gusts continue to batter the north and northwest of mainland Spain, spreading down across Madrid and the centre of the country but leaving the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands largely untouched.
Snow levels in the Pyrenees and the Sierra Nevada will drop to 2,000-2,200 metres, and remain around 1,600-2,200 in the Cantabrian mountain range and the Central system. In fact, temperatures will tend to decrease practically across the board, more markedly on the eastern side and in the Balearic Islands.
Spain weather forecast, Tuesday October 24
On Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 it is much the same story, with rains hammering down in Galicia and the north, gradually weakening as it spreads eastward across mainland Spain and remaining dry, if cloudy, in the south and far east, while the Canary Islands remain overcast and showery, especially in the north of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
