Storm Oscar puts almost 30 provinces on alert: Spain forecast June 5-8
The storm will hit the Canary Islands hard but most of Spain can expect abundant rain this week
After a particularly cool and unsettled weekend in much of Spain, the weather is set to take a turn for the worse in the coming days with the arrival of Storm Oscar from the Atlantic, a very unusual squall for this time of year, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Although the Canary Islands will bear the brunt towards the middle of the week, most the country can expect plenty of heavy showers, while the temperatures will fluctuate from day to day.
"The week will be cool in most of the country, except in the northern third of the Peninsula and in the two archipelagos, where the atmosphere will be somewhat warmer than normal," Aemet spokesperson Ruben del Campo explained.
The approaching storm will lead to overcast skies on Monday June 5 that will deepen as the day moves on, and the showers will begin early in northern and eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands.
Inland, the rain will be accompanied by hail but the showers will be much less intense in coastal areas, and almost non-existent in the southwest.
The skies will darken in the Canary Islands towards the afternoon, and the rainfall will gather strength in the evening.
Few changes are expected in the temperatures on Monday.

In the rest of Spain, the morning will be overcast and stormy showers are likely in mountainous areas later in the day.
Both the maximum and minimum temperatures will rise across the board, with the mercury reaching a sweltering 34ºC in Seville.

There is less probability of storms in the eastern half of the country, but it will be a wet and blustery day in most of the northwest. The Balearic Islands and Mediterranean coast should remain dry on Wednesday but daytime temperatures will drop considerably.
