Storm Olivia brings haze and mud rain: Spain weather forecast April 4-8
Towards the end of the weekend, a stormy front will spread across almost all of Spain
Weather outlook on Saturday April 6
This week, Spain is expected to experience a surge in stability and warmth, with rainfall primarily confined to Galicia until Sunday. However, another weather phenomenon will emerge this weekend: haze. Starting on Friday, a layer of haze will spread across the southern part of the country and gradually blanket the rest of Spain over the course of the weekend.
The haze will be propelled by Storm Olivia, which is forecast to move northeastwards towards the United Kingdom, thereby creating a southerly wind that will transport suspended dust from the Sahara Desert directly onto the Spanish mainland. As a result, parts of Spain may experience muddy rain showers.
Friday will mark the initial entry of haze into the southern regions of Spain and although the concentration of airborne particles will remain relatively low, Andalucía will likely be the first region to notice the effects.
During the weekend, the haze will persistently pour in from the south, causing skies to turn orange across most of the country and the Balearic Islands.
Thursday April 4
The weather is expected to be mostly stable across the country, with partly cloudy skies or high clouds. However, the northwest of the country will be very overcast and wet due to the approach of storm Olivia.
Temperatures are expected to rise, particularly in the middle of the country and near the Mediterranean Sea.
Friday April 5
The weather will remain pleasant in most parts of the country, with mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies. The storm system will bring rain to the northwest of the country, but it’s unlikely to spread much further south.
Temperatures will increase everywhere, except in western Galicia and the eastern Mediterranean.
Saturday April 6
A cold front will bring cloudy skies and rain to the northwest of Spain and the Canary Islands. The rain will spread to other parts of the country, but it won't reach the Balearic Islands.
Temperatures will decrease in the Canary Islands, the western third of the country and northeastern Catalonia, while they will rise elsewhere.
Sunday April 7
An Atlantic front will bring unstable weather to the entire country and the Canary Islands on Saturday, with plenty of cloud cover and rain expected. The rain will be most likely in the western and northwestern parts of the country, but it could occur anywhere except in the extreme southeast and the Balearic Islands.
Temperatures will fall pretty much across the board, except in the eastern Mediterranean, where minimum temperatures will rise.
Monday April 8
This far ahead, storm Olivia’s path for early next week is still very uncertain, but at the moment the experts have forecast a chance of rain in the northwest once again, and even some snow in the mountains of the north.
Temperatures will fall everywhere, and there will be strong winds in the mountains and on the coast. In the Canary Islands, there will be cloudy intervals and occasional rain in the north of the islands, but temperatures will stay the same.
