ARCHIVED - Storms and muddy rain forecast for Murcia on Wednesday and Thursday
Violent thunderstorms expected in much of Spain although the Costa Cálida escapes the worst
Just as it was beginning to seem that fine weather had settled in the Region of Murcia for the start of summer unstable conditions have returned to much of Spain and thunderstorms and rain showers are forecast in the Costa Cálida on both Wednesday and Thursday.
An unstable high altitude depression (DANA) is forecast to bring storms to much of the Iberian Peninsula during the second half of the week and orange and yellow alerts for possible heavy rain are in place in most of the northern third of Spain on Wednesday and Thursday. But the risk of violent storms is not limited to the north, and already on Wednesday the forecast for the Region of Murcia is rather less pleasant than has been the case over the last few days.
Dark clouds formed over the coast on Wednesday morning and storms and showers are a possibility throughout the day, according to Aemet, although the temperature is still expected to reach between 28 degrees in Yecla, in the north of the Region of Murcia, and 31 in the regional capital.
The risk of heavy storms is at its highest in the early hours of Thursday and maximum temperatures will drop into the mid-20s, although by the afternoon and evening the sky is likely to clear as the sunshine returns. Unfortunately, the rain will almost certainly contain the reddish Saharan dust which so often accompanies precipitation in Murcia, falling as mud and dirtying cars, balconies and patios!
Friday is expected to be another fine, sunny day, but more cloud cover is forecast over the weekend as the official start of summer on 21st June draws closer.
