ARCHIVED - Stormy weather gives way to autumnal weekend: Spain weather outlook September 30-October 2
The wet weather will move away from the Mediterranean over the weekend to leave bright, sunny days
Tropical storm Hermine, which created the wettest September ever seen in the Canary Islands, will begin moving away from Spain towards the end of this week, dispersing the last of the storms along the Mediterranean coast. This will leave a largely settled weekend in southern Spain, although the heavy rain will persist in the north.
The worst of the after-effects from Hermine will be felt on Friday September 30, when orange weather alerts will be in place in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands for storms. Here, flooding is likely and Aemet has predicted hail stones of more than two centimetres in diameter – around the size of a euro coin. Storms are also expected in the Valencian Community and Teruel, but they’ll be far less intense.
Friday night will be much cooler, the thermometers hovering at around 14ºC in Alicante and Murcia while the daytime temperatures should still easily hit the mid-20s.
The weather will make a big improvement on Saturday October 1, with only Galicia remaining cloudy and showery. Elsewhere the day will be mostly clear and the northern Canary Islands can expect some light rain.
The mercury will rise noticeably in practically all of Spain, reaching 30ºC in Seville, while the north and inland areas will also see a boost. The night will be cool again in the southeast, not rising above the mid-teens in many communities.
Although Sunday October 2 is expected to remain stable, there is a slight chance of showers and storms in the extreme south of Spain, mainly affecting eastern Andalucia and the Alboran. The morning will begin slightly cloudy although this should clear in the south as the day goes on.
There aren’t any weather warnings in place for Sunday, but Aemet hasn’t ruled out the presence of a calima in the south of the country and the Canary Islands.
Temperatures will rise again in practically the whole of Spain.
