Summer 2024 Three multi-day hikes to the holy city of Caravaca de la Cruz
The Caravaca pilgrimage routes are expecting multitudes of walkers in the Holy Jubilee year of 2024
A series of special hiking and walking events is being held this summer by the Sport department of the Town Hall of Caravaca de la Cruz to coincide with the Holy Jubilee year in 2024, offering opportunities to join groups making their way along the Camino de la Vera Cruz, Camino del Apóstol and Camino Espiritual del Sur pilgrimage routes.
The completion of any of these routes, all of them over 50 kilometres in length, entitled walkers to receive their “Caravacensis” credential for making their way to the holy city.
The first event takes place on the Camino del Apóstol on June 8 and 9, consisting of two stages from Santa Eulalia in Totana to Zarzadilla de Totana in the municipality of Lorca (28 kilometres) and from the village of Coy in Lorca to Caravaca de la Cruz (26 kilometres). Registration for this walk is 10 euros for federation members and 18 for non-affiliates, including overnight accommodation, coach transport, a commemorative t-shirt and the Caravacensis credential.
This is followed between July 6 and 12 by a longer hike on the Camino de la Vera Cruz, consisting of three stages in the province of Teruel and another 3 in the Region of Murcia. On this occasion registration costs are 150 euros for federation members and 175 for non-affiliates, again including overnight accommodation, coach transport, a commemorative t-shirt and the Caravacensis credential.
Finally, from August 1 to 5 the hike taking place is on the Camino Espiritual del Sur, with two overnight stays and three stages on board the coach. The stop-off points include Orce, Huéscar, Puebla de Don Fadrique, Cañada de la Cruz and Archivel, with registration costing 70 euros for federation members and 90 for non-affiliates.
Registration for all three hikes opens at 9.00 on March 4 and can be completed on this website or in person at the council office in Pabellón Juan Antonio Corbalán. Further information on 968 703563 or at deportes@caravacadelacruz.es.
