Teach in Spain: Applications open for international language assistants
Spain is recruiting foreign language assistants for the 2025-26 academic year, with new opportunities now open to US and UK applicants
Spain is once again looking for foreign language assistants to work in state schools for the 2025-26 academic year and this time, UK applicants are eligible to apply. The Spanish government has opened 750 positions for conversation assistants, with roles available to candidates from a range of English-speaking and other partner countries.For the first time, citizens of the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta and Switzerland can apply directly through their country’s education body. In addition, the programme is also open to candidates from Australia, Canada, the United States, New Zealand and several other nations with agreements in place with Spain.
What does the job involve?
Assistants will work 14-16 hours a week in Spanish state schools, supporting English or other language teaching. In return, they will receive a monthly stipend of €800 in most regions or €1,000 in Madrid, helping to cover living costs.
The programme runs from 1 October 2025 to 31 May 2026, with an extended contract until 30 June for those placed in Madrid.
Who can apply?
Applicants must:
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of an eligible country.
- Hold a university degree or be at least a second-year university student.
- Be aged 18 to 59 at the time of application.
- Provide a medical declaration confirming they are fit for the role.
- Submit a clean criminal record certificate.
How to apply
Applications are open now, with a deadline of March 26, 2025. New UK applicants must apply through the designated body in the UK before receiving access to Spain’s online application platform.
