Temperatures begin to fall this weekend: Spain weather forecast Oct 12-15
The bank holiday will be bright and warm across Spain but a change is on the way
The unseasonable heat that has marked much of October so far will continue throughout the bank holiday on Thursday October 12, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), but by the following day an Atlantic front will begin sweeping in over northern Spain, pulling the temperatures down to more normal levels and bringing plenty of rain over the weekend.
However, Aemet spokesperson Ruben del Campo has indicated that it will still be very warm for October in much of the country.
"We are experiencing such high temperatures that Saturday will still be a warm day for the time of year in large areas of the north and east of the Peninsula," he said.
Outlook for Thursday October 12
The mercury will remain largely unchanged on Thursday October 12 although the Canary Islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro can expect the thermometers to hit 33 or 34ºC. It will be a largely stable day, with slightly cloudy or clear skies and some early morning cloudiness in the Mediterranean.
Outlook for Friday October 13
On Friday October 13, summery temperatures will be maintained for the most part, with much of the east and south of the country, as well as the Balearic Islands, expected to exceed 30ºC. It will be warmer still in parts of Extremadura, Andalucia and inland points of the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia.
On the other hand, the Atlantic front will begin moving in across northern Spain, creating overcast skies and occasional stormy intervals, particularly in Galicia and Asturias. And while this weather front will gradually move downwards, it’s unlikely to result in any rain further south.
Outlook for Saturday October 14
The front that entered on Friday will continue its journey on Saturday October 14, leaving weak rains in its wake inland and in the east of the country. In general the skies will be cloudy and this, together with the arrival of cooler Atlantic air, will cause daytime temperatures to drop clearly in most parts of the country.
The only exception is the Mediterranean, where daytime temperatures should actually rise by a couple of degrees, and the cloud cover will lead to a considerably warmer night too.
Overall, it will continue to be a warm day for the season on Saturday with temperatures between 5 and 10ºC above normal in many parts of the country.
Outlook for Sunday October 15
The real change will come on Sunday October 15 as the low Atlantic pressure spreads, resulting in a very wet day in the northwest, rain that will later spread from west to east. However, Aemet believes its unlikely to reach the southeast of Spain, leaving the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia and eastern Andalucia completely dry.
By Sunday, the daytime temperatures will have returned to more usual levels in northern Spain, having dropped 6 or 8ºC, while the thermometers are still likely to tip 30ºC in the south.
