ARCHIVED - Temperatures continue to soar across Spain: weather forecast April 10-13
The mercury will exceed 30ºC in several regions of Spain this week

Easter has come to a close in Spain and the 2023 Semana Santa will go down in history as one of the driest and warmest ever. The summery temperatures look set to continue all this week, particularly in the southeast of the country and in the Balearic Islands, with the thermometers in several areas expected to easily exceed 30ºC.
While the stunning temperatures will no doubt please the tourism industry, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned that the prolonged absence of rain will further aggravate the situation of drought. In addition, the risk of forest fires, which are already causing mayhem up and down the country, has been upgraded to either very high or extreme in practically all of the south of Spain, as well as in Asturias, Cantabria, Aragón and the eastern part of the Pyrenees.
The skies will begin to clear in Galicia and Cantabria to the north on Monday April 10, although some light rain is still expected due to an approaching front. The Balearic Islands and much of northern Spain will have some cloudy spells but the rest of the country will be bright and sunny.
Continuing the trend from last week, the Canary Islands can expect Saharan dust on Monday. The thermometers will drop at the height of the day in the north but will steadily climb elsewhere, shooting into the low 30s in the Guadalquivir valley and around Malaga and inland Murcia.
Trade winds will hit the Canary Islands, especially strong in the west.
Tuesday April 11 will bring few changes to northern Spain but the rest of the country should be mostly clear and bright.
The haze will continue to affect the Canary Islands, especially in the east. Daytime temperatures will continue to climb on Monday and will probably exceed 30ºC in the extreme south. There are no weather warnings in place but a westerly wind, light in most areas, will become increasingly strong in Galicia as the day progresses.
As we hit the middle of the week the threatening Atlantic front will cross Spain from west to east, leaving abundant clouds in its wake on Wednesday April 12. Any rain that materialises will be confined to the extreme north. The Balearic Islands will be slightly cloudy or clear for most of the day but a looming DANA will result in plenty of cloudy intervals and a few showers in the Canary Islands.
The snow level in the northern third of the country will drop throughout the day from more than 2,000 metres to about 1,000 metres, and the dust clouds will continue to blanket the Canary Islands.
It will be another warm one in the Mediterranean, and the mercury will once again reach the low-30s in parts of Murcia and Valencia.
Westerly and northwesterly winds will grow in strength along the coast, placing several communities, including Valencia and Catalonia, on yellow alert for adverse sea conditions and gusts.
The front will continue on its way to the east on Thursday April 13 but will affect the Balearic Islands in the early hours, creating overcast skies and the chance of some light rain. Another weather front will hit the north of the country later in the day, leaving plenty of clouds and weak rainfall.
The rest of Spain will enjoy another clear or slightly cloudy day and the snow levels will rise to between 1,300 and 1,500 metres.
Daytime temperatures will fall in the eastern part of the country and on the islands and the evening will feel considerably cooler than on previous days.
