Temperatures in the 30s and mild, sunny weather: Spain forecast October 5-8
The summer-like weather will continue in most of Spain throughout the weekend
It’s hard to believe we’re coming to the end of the first week of October. Temperature records have been broken left and right and with a few damp exceptions in the extreme north of the country, most of Spain has been enjoying bright, sunny days that are more reminiscent of August than the middle of autumn.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) fully expects a very warm air mass to remain over Spain for at least another few days and while the thermometers could drop by a degree or two at the end of the weekend, it will still be hotter, on average, than anything the country has experienced since the 1990s.
“If the forecast comes true, we would arrive in mid-October with 33 records for warm days in 2023 and none for cold days,” an Aemet spokesperson said, explaining that in a normal full year, no more than five of each record is expected.
Thursday October 5
Stable weather will predominate in much of the country, although intervals of low morning clouds are not ruled out in Galicia, the Ebro basin, the interior of the southeast and the Mediterranean area, while some weak rain could hit the Strait.
Thursday night will be a little cooler in the southeast than on previous evenings but during the day the temperatures will begin to increase once more, especially in inland areas of the east and southeast. Overall the mercury will be higher than normal for the time of year, easily hitting 34-36ºC in the southwest and in the Canary Islands.
A yellow weather warning has been issued in Andalucia for rough seas after 8pm.
Friday October 6
Slightly cloudy or clear skies are expected in most of the country after an overcast and foggy start in the north of the Mediterranean. There’s no real change expected in the nighttime temperatures but the day will be noticeably warmer across the country, more especially in the extreme south and west.
While the mercury along the southern Atlantic coast will hover around 34 or 36ºC, it could rise as high as 38ºC in the Guadalquivir and Guadiana.
Saturday October 7
The forecast for Saturday is almost identical to Friday with a few shifts in the temperatures.
Daytime temperatures will drop noticeably in Huelva while still remaining unseasonably high in most of mainland Spain and the Canary Islands, where the thermometers will easily register in the mid to high 30s.
Sunday October 8
With a large degree of uncertainty, Aemet believes the temperatures could begin to fall on Sunday, especially in the southwest. The biggest drop will be registered on the Andalucian Mediterranean coast but interestingly, the mercury should continue to climb in the extreme west of the region.
Overall though most of the country is in for a bright and sunny day with some low clouds forecast in the Mediterranean and the Strait.
