Temperatures on the rise but the rain continues: Spain weather forecast Dec 7-10
The mercury will climb several degrees over the weekend but most of Spain will be dull and damp
Weather warnings on Friday December 8
Weather predictions aren’t always foolproof and this week, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has made an abrupt about-turn, forecasting that the daytime temperatures will soar to between 5 and 10ºC above normal for this time of year.
This dramatic increase will begin on Thursday and persist into the middle of next week, although the widespread rain and showers that have dampened the entire country in recent days will also continue.
Thursday December 7
The Atlantic front forecast at the beginning of the week will continue to influence the weather on Thursday, creating cloudy or overcast skies across the country. Widespread rain will move from the northwest to the southeast in the morning, although it will be generally weak in the extreme south and hardly noticeable along the Mediterranean coast.
Daytime temperatures will increase sharply across the board and this will make snowfall unlikely below 2,200 metres for the most part.
Galicia will jump between yellow and orange weather warnings for heavy rain and strong winds throughout the day.
Friday December 8
The rain will persist on Friday with a strong possibility of stormy episodes in Galicia to the north and inland Andalucia to the south. The day will once again be very dull but the showers will ease off in the afternoon in most places. However, as night falls, a new front will enter from the northwest causing an increase in cloudiness.
Nighttime temperatures will take a jump in the northeast and decrease in Andalucia, while the daytime temperatures will continue to rise in the Mediterranean area.
Intense winds and gusts are forecast in much of the country, placing the likes of the Valencian Community, Andalucia and the Balearic Islands on alert for rough seas and gales.
Saturday December 9
It will be another wet and windy day in the north of Spain but rain is unlikely in the rest of the country, while the skies will tend to be cloudy with some clear spells.
The mercury will dip a little in the Balearic Islands and the southeastern coasts but continue to rise everywhere else, while frosts will be limited to the mountains.
West and southerly gusts mean the Balearic Islands and Catalonia are on alert for high waves.
Sunday December 10
The extreme northwest of the country will continue under the influence of Atlantic fronts, while in the rest of Spain and the Balearic Islands a more stable situation will prevail. The day will begin with very cloudy skies on the Atlantic and Cantabrian slopes, except in the extreme south, but this will tend to clear as the day goes on.
Daytime temperatures will once again increase across the board, reaching a pleasant 24ºC in Murcia.
