Ten new shade trees planted in Los MartÃnez del Puerto Cultural Centre
Murcia City Council has also committed to improving lighting and footpaths in the area
José Guillén, Murcia’s Councillor for Urban Development, this week explored the vibrant district of Los Martínez del Puerto, nestled in the Campo de Murcia region near La Torre Golf Resort. Alongside the municipal board president, Agustín Osete, Mr Guillén engaged with locals, discussing pressing matters related to urban greenery and public lighting.
This tour took in the gardens of the Los Martínez del Puerto Cultural Centre, where ten large trees of the Platanus hispánica variety have recently been planted in order to provide shade to visitors and further smarten up the neighbourhood.
Going forward, the councillor has taken heed of local concerns about the deteriorating tiles on the footpath outside the doctor’s office, which are being lifted by tree roots and now pose a real trip hazard. The plan now is to remove the paving altogether and replace it with beds for myrtle trees.
Mr Guillén has also asked the Public Lighting Service of the Murcia City Council to install light points in three poorly-lit areas of Los Martínez del Puerto: el camino de los Ruices, el camino del Cementerio and el camino de la Cruz.
Councillor Guillén took the opportunity of the visit to highlight “the commitment of Mayor Ballesta’s Government Team to focused plans, developing improvement actions in the 67 neighbourhoods and districts of the municipality so that its residents have the best services and the greatest opportunities possible.”
