ARCHIVED - The spring of 2021 was the coolest for 8 years in Murcia
The Costa Cálida recorded the third wettest spring this century
The Aemet summary of the meteorological spring in the Region of Murcia, taking in the months of March, April and May, reports that this was the third wettest of the 21st century with an average of 167 millimetres, almost double the historical average.
However, it may also be worth noticing that each of the last three springs in Murcia has been wetter than the average, and the changing climate patterns may be responsible: last year’s figure was higher still at 175 mm, although hsome way short of the 214.8 mm of 2004.
The total reached over 200 mm in the Campo de Cartagena and in localized areas of Sierra Espuña and the centre of the Region, the wettest place being Tentegorra on the outskirts of Cartagena with 276 mm. The wettest day was recorded on 23rd May in Molina de Segura, with 82 mm of rain, and on 26th April 17.4 mm fell in just 10 minutes in Jumilla.
In terms of temperature, the spring of 2021 was the coolest in the Costa Cálida for 8 years, with an average day and night temperature of 20.4 degrees. Three warm spells are reported, one in each of the three months, the highest temperature being one of 37.3 degrees in Molina de Segura on 16th May, while in Inazares in Moratalla the thermometer dipped to just 2.5ºC on 20th March.
