The world's most beautiful town has been named and it's in Spain
World Tourism Organisation has placed the town of Rupit i Pruït on top of their list of the most beautiful in the world
Once two separate towns until they were officially united in 1977, Rupit i Pruït has now been named the most beautiful town in the world. With less than 300 hundred inhabitants and a history that is over 1000 years old, this town is a special gem in the countryside of northern Spain.
The town, located in the heart of Catalunya, to this day holds some beautiful reminders of the past, such as the magnificent wooden suspension bridge that can only support 10 people at a time.
Hidden in the mountains of the countryside, with paved streets and stone houses, the town has done its utmost not to interfere with the natural beauty of the area. Furthermore, the town works hard to pay homage to the grandeur of nature, and everything about this fantastic place speaks to the subtlety of natural beauty.
Walking routes from the town lead visitors to the 17th century church of Santa Magdalena. During the Spanish Civil War, the temple was desecrated. In 1973 it was rebuilt thanks to a collection made by the villagers. Legend has it that the witch Tecla lived in the area, and had books from which she learned to transform herself into all kinds of animals.
Furthermore, hiking in this part of the world is very famous and from the town, people can hike through the nearby forests. The most popular route takes people to the Salt del Sallent, a waterfall with a drop of more than 100 metres, making it the highest in Catalonia.
Finally, as previously mentioned, the bridge is one of the most famed and beautiful elements of the city. The bridge stands over the gorge of the Rupit stream, offering spectacular views of the landscape. The Collsacabra landscape is a succession of cliffs, wilderness, forest and waterfalls that are sure to take visitors' breath away.
Therefore, if you find yourself in Barcelona, or the north of Spain in general, do not forget to check out this famous village which is now officialy the most beautiful in the world.
