British communities up and down the Spanish Costas observed a solemn ceremony and a minute’s silence on the occasion of Remembrance Day last week, and because the town of Pilar de la Horadada in Alicante province has such a large UK expat community, their tribute to the victims of wars was more poignant than many.
The Poppy Day event in Pilar de la Horadada, which took place in the Chapel of San Justo de Mil Palmeras and was organised by the Royal British Legion, was attended by town Mayor, José María Pérez, along with the Councillor for International Residents, Belén Sánchez; the Councillor for Public Safety, Marina Sáez; and other members of the Town Hall group, who all paid their respects to the fallen, wearing poppies and laying wreaths at the church.
