Third earthquake in three days in Murcia and Alicante area
This week there have been three small quakes in as many days, none of which caused any damage
An earthquake measuring magnitude 3.0 occurred in Molina de Segura and the surrounding area this Thursday afternoon, April 25. The earthquake, with its epicentre in the northeast of the municipality of Molina de Segura in central Murcia, was registered at 3.58pm, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
The seismic movement had a depth of 7 kilometres and was very close to the urbanisation of La Alcayna in Molina. For the moment there have been no reports of personal injury or material damage.
According to the IGN, the quake could be felt in the Murcia municipalities of Fortuna, Archena, Murcia, Santomera, Alguazas, Ceutí and Villanueva del Río Segura.
It could even be felt as far away as in parts of Alicante province, such as Orihuela and Callosa de Segura.
“It was like a giant thunderclap,” one resident of La Alcayna told Spanish media.
This is the third earthquake in as many days to be registered in the Region of Murcia after the magnitude-2.5 quake in Jumilla in the early hours of Wednesday morning and in Aledo (magnitude 2.0) on Tuesday, also in the early hours of the morning.
