With the rainstorm that has put Spain’s Region of Murcia on orange alert this Wednesday August 14, an unexpected and frankly alarming weather phenomenon has been spotted in the Camposol urbanisation in Mazarrón.
Residents of the largely expat area watched on in amazement and filmed as a supercell tornado formed in the skies over Camposol this afternoon.
Emergency services have been planning their response to possible extreme weather conditions today, including flooding and strong winds.
In Lorca, for example, the Inunlor Plan has been activated as a ‘pre-alert situation for municipal emergency personnel’ such as police and firefighters.
Advice for how to act in these extreme weather situations includes not driving, especially not through deep or flowing water, and taking care to stay away from the sea or rivers.
