Torre Pacheco Municipal election: PP win the most seats but short of an absolute majority
PP Party increase their share of the vote to gain 5 seats, making a total of 8 but still not enough for outright majority
The conservative PP (Partido Popular) Party in Torre Pacheco, led by Pedro Ángel Roca Tornel, collected the most votes in the municipal elections by obtaining 4814 votes, with a percentage of 34.71% of the total cast. That’s an increase of 3,213 votes and 5 extra seats compared to the 3 they won in the 2019 election.
In second place was the incumbent PITP (Partido Independiente de Torre Pacheco) with 4,179 votes and 6 seats, 3 seats fewer than they 9 obtained in 2019 and a decrease of 888 votes.
Third place went to far-right party VOX, who secured 2,602 votes and 4 seats, which is an increase of 1 seat on the 2019 result with 968 more votes.
The socialist PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español) took the remaining 3 seats, 2 seats fewer than 2019, with 2,165 votes, 392 down on the previous election.
The voter turnout was 65.36% with 13,997 votes cast and an abstention of 34.63% meaning 7,415 no-shows, void or spoiled votes numbered 131 with another 106 blank votes.
With the total number of Councillors sitting on the Torre Pacheco Council being 21, a majority of at least 11 seats would be required, which raises the issue of a negotiated coalition between 2 or more parties, this is not unusual for Torre Pacheco as the last two councils (2015-2019 and 2019-2023) have been PITP/PSOE coalitions lead by PITP Mayor, Antonio León Garre.
This time, however, the number of seats won by the two parties (PITP 6 and PSOE 3) only amounts to nine – two short of an absolute majority, so the incoming council will have a new political makeup.
The PP party also polled the most votes in all but one of the municipalities which surround Torre Pacheco including Cartagena, Murcia, San Javier and Fuente Álamo. The municipality of Los Alcázares returns to the PSOE party, with an outright majority of 13 seats out of 17.
