ARCHIVED - Tourist, 33, in critical condition after jumping off a cliff in Ibiza
The foreign man has suffered a possible spinal injury after his jump into the sea went wrong
A 33-year-old foreign man has been left in critical condition after jumping from a cliff into the sea at Cala Salada beach, in the municipality of Sant Antoni, Ibiza this Sunday June 12.
The incident occurred at around 3.55pm when the man jumped into the sea from a height of five metres and fell onto some rocks, emergency services reported.
A lifeguard on the beach at the popular holiday and party island alerted the rescue services, who had to reach the injured man by boat.
He was taken to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario health centre with a possible spinal injury.
When the weather in summer reaches the sweltering highs we’re seeing now, it’s tempting to dive into the sea to cool off, but many beachgoers in Spain are injured this way, or worse.
Just two weeks ago, a 20-year-old drowned off the coast of Nerja, Malaga after jumping into the sea from rocks known as ‘Tarzan peak’, while last month a Dutch ex-footballer was killed when he smashed into some rocks after leaping from a 25-metre-high cliff in Mallorca while his partner and young son filmed it.
