Tragedy in Ibiza as two-year-old British boy drowns in villa pool
Paramedics fought for over an hour to revive the toddler found unresponsive in the water

The incident happened on Thursday June 5 at a private property in the rural Rubió area of Sant Miquel, in the municipality of Sant Joan, on the northern side of the island. The toddler was discovered floating in the pool by relatives, unresponsive and not breathing.
Emergency services were called at 10.40am and immediately activated the CPR protocol. Call handlers from the Balearic Islands’ emergency response service, 061, gave telephone assistance to guide family members through resuscitation attempts while help was on the way.
A Basic Life Support ambulance arrived first, closely followed by an Advanced Life Support unit. Paramedics battled for more than an hour to revive the child, but despite their best efforts, they were sadly unable to save him.
The family had been staying at the villa while on holiday in the area.
The Guardia Civil is understood to be handling the investigation into the incident.
This is the latest in a string of worrying pool-related accidents in Spain involving young children. Just days ago, a 12-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool in Mijas, while in Mallorca, a four-year-old British boy had to be rescued after getting his hand stuck in a pool pipe at a hotel. He was freed without serious injury.
These stories are a tragic reminder of how quickly accidents can happen around water, particularly during the warmer months when pools are in regular use. Authorities continue to urge parents and carers to remain vigilant and to never leave children unattended near water, even for a moment.
