ARCHIVED - Tragic toll booth car crash in Malaga leaves one dead
An off-duty policeman collided with a motorway toll booth last Tuesday

A horrendous crash occurred on the AP-46 motorway in the town of Casabermeja in Málaga this week as a car ploughed into a toll booth, killing the driver and leaving the toll booth worker in hospital.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening, September 28, at around 5.15pm, when the car collided with a kiosk at kilometre 6 of the AP-46 motorway, going towards Antequera. The driver, a 33-year-old Guardia Civil police officer going home after his shift, was left trapped inside his car and the woman working in the toll booth was also trapped.
While the driver was reported dead after he was taken out, the 20-year-old worker was transported to the Carlos Haya Hospital in Málaga with serious injuries. Police are currently investigating the incident, but are at a loss as to what could have caused it.

Distraught family, friends and colleagues of the deceased described him as a “very responsible” young man, and denied that he could have been speeding.
“Borja did not like to go fast. When he was a passenger with me in the car, if he saw that I was a bit over the speed limit, he would quickly tell me to slow down,” said one of his friends. “He was very sensible; he didn’t do crazy things.”
Twitter users have been shocked by images of the aftermath of the accident that show the extent of damage to both the car and the destroyed booth.
