ARCHIVED - Twenty arrested in Ceuta and Cadiz for transporting illegal migrants
The National Police arrested 13 people in Cádiz (Andalusia) and another seven in Ceuta, all of whom face charges of illegal human trafficking.

Twenty people have been arrested for alleged migrant trafficking in a police operation in Cádiz and Ceuta. The arrestees are believed to be members of a well-known criminal gang operating in the Campo de Gibraltar area that recruited illegal migrants wanting to make the trip to Spain and its workers in Ceuta and nearby Moroccan towns.
Most of the migrants, who were brought to the mainland on small boats with a capacity for seven to ten passengers, were Moroccans who paid 2,500 euros each for the journey.
This type of organised crime has been increasing within the last year, the operations to transfer illegal migrants to the Spanish coastline becoming increasingly organised.
150 National Police officers and Europol were involved in the operation, which saw seven properties searched and five firearms seized along with an abundance of ammunition, GPS equipment, 5,500 litres of fuel in 150 drums, three boats, 1,380 pounds sterling and 710 euros in cash and various documents.
The arrestees, seven of whom have been remanded in custody, are considered to be extremely violent as they were quick to attack their victims or threaten them with weapons if they failed to pay up on time.
They are even said to have boasted on social media networks, broadcasting music videos to flaunt their lifestyles and show off their weapons.
The group is also suspected to be responsible for four deaths in February when a boat carrying illegal migrants overturned.
