Two Alicante municipalities on red alert due to sky-high temperatures
More than 20 Alicante localities will swelter through a tropical night with thermometers above 25ºC

With a full week still remaining, June 2025 has already broken records to become the hottest ever recorded. The heat has been relentless so far, but according to forecasts, we haven’t seen anything yet.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) of the Valencian Community has warned that this week will continue to be exceptionally warm. There may be a slight dip in temperatures in inland areas between Wednesday and Thursday (June 25 and 26), but this drop won’t reach anyone living in the coastal areas of Alicante.
For Tuesday June 24, Aemet has issued a yellow alert for the southern coast of Alicante, where maximum temperatures could reach a baking 36ºC between one in the afternoon and nine in the evening.
But that’s not the worst of it. The extreme temperature monitoring system in the Valencian Community has identified two municipalities at high risk on June 24. Benferri and La Granja de Rocamora will be on red alert due to scorching heat levels.
Residents and tourists are strongly advised to take maximum precautions and protect themselves from the intense heat expected on Tuesday.
Nightfall will bring little comfort. High temperatures will persist through the evening and into the early hours, with the mercury failing to drop below 25ºC during what’s known in Spain as a torrid or equatorial night.
The following municipalities are expected to experience a torrid night on Tuesday:
- Torrevieja
- Crevillent
- Albatera
- Novelda
- Agost
- San Vicente del Raspeig
- Mutxamel
- Xixona
- El Campello
- Benidorm
- La Vila Joiosa
- Busot
- Aigües
- Relleu
- Orxeta
- Sella
- Finestrat
- L'Alfàs del Pi
- La Nucía
- Polop
- Castell de Castells
- Altea
- Callosa d'en Sarrià
- Benissa
With high temperatures continuing day and night, the authorities urge everyone to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during peak hours and check on vulnerable individuals.
