ARCHIVED - Two dead after car crashes into restaurant terrace in Torre Pacheco
A car crashed into the terrace of Honey’s Bar in Torre Pacheco (Murcia) killing a customer and injuring two others
Two people were killed and two more left injured in Torre Pacheco (Murcia) on Friday September 17 after a car crashed into a restaurant terrace at nearly 120 km/h.
The vehicle crashed into the terrace of Honey’s Bar, a local business frequented by British expats, also affecting Gateway Indian’s terrace, on Friday afternoon and the emergency services were immediately called, including firefighters, police and ambulances.
One customer, who was dining with his wife, was killed in the incident and two more clients were rushed to the Los Arcos Hospital in San Javier with an arm injury and a head injury, respectively.
The driver also died and, according to police sources, he already had a stab wound in his stomach and was covered in blood before crashing his car.
Witnesses who were in the area at the time have described the scene as “something from a horror film” and outraged residents, as well as the political party Vox, organised a protest against the “lack of safety” in the neighbourhood on Sunday September 19.
Police have hypothesised that the young Moroccan driver lost control of his vehicle due to the injuries he had sustained in a recent knife fight. Officers also believe that he could have been attempting to escape from his attacker, or attackers, at the time of the incident.
A full investigation has been launched and the Guardia Civil are trying to find the culprit of the stabbing.
